When going on a hike the question is always what should I take with . To help answer that you need to decide how long of a hike you are going on . If your going for a mile or 2 you don't need much but your going for 5 miles or more you will need more things.
Short hike weather its a 1/2 mile or mile all you need is a water bottle if your taking a camera you can use a hip pouch . The one I have that is in the picture can hold two water bottles and has a large zippered pouch you can put a small snack in as well and map. Also for a short hike if you plan on taking your time and going to be out for a long time. I also have a safari hiking vest its light weight and has a vent so your back doesn't get hot . It also has 5 pockets on each side and a large pouch on the back and 1 large pocket on the inside on each side. So you can carry pretty much .
If you're going for a longer hike or would rather carry a book bag style bag there are lots of them on the market .The one I have has 2 side pouches for a water bottle on each side. It has 2 large compartments and a small one on the front . On the bottom it has a pull out rain cover so you can pull it over your bag and it will stay dry .
What to take on a small hike :
Water bottle (if your not taking a bag you can get a clip and clip the bottle on your belt loop .
Camera
Closed toed shoes
What to take on a bigger hike or if your staying out longer :
Water bottle or 2
Hiking shoes
small first aid kit
extra stocks ( If your feet get wet or sweaty you can change them so you don't get blisters )
Snacks
map
If your using your phone to take pictures or Geocaching take a portable charger with
Sun screen
Toilet paper ( Just in case nature calls )
Rain coat
I hope this list helps you get ready for your first hike .
