Mashed Potato Day

Last week I shared ideas for a chili bar this week I'm sharing ideas for a mashed potato bar for mashed potato day.

There are so many things you can do with a mashed potato bar; the choices for mashed potato bar toppings are endless. Pretty much anything you think up you can use.Whether you’re getting together with friends for game night, hosting a family dinner, or setting up a potluck, a mashed potatoes bar is the perfect way to feed and entertain your guests. And it really doesn’t take a whole lot of time and effort on your part.

1st step is to decide weather you want to use regular potatos , sweet potatos or instant potatos. Once you decided on that now you need to pick your toppings. I looked at different sites to see what people use. And the basic toppings is sheredded cheese, sour cream and beacon . But there is more than just that . Here is what I found

Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt

What potatoes are best for a mash potato bar?

yellow potatoes or Yukon Gold potatoes, you can use any kind of potatoes you prefer, including Russet potatoes, red potatoes, even purple potatoes if you can find them. If you really don't want to make mashed potatoes, ready made potatoes could be just the thing.

How can you keep the mashed potatoes warm at a party?

You can either use a buffet server and food warmer. Or you can keep the mashed potatoes in a Crock Pot or Instant Pot on the “Keep Warm” setting.

If your just looking for a simple meal for your family here is a poplular dish that is sold at the Iowa state fair .The Iowa State Fair is famous for serving up this savory dish that looks a lot like one of our favorite ice cream desserts. In fact, that's the point! Hot Beef Sundaes may look like ice cream sundaes, but they're actually made with some of our favorite comfort foods: mashed potatoes, roast beef, gravy, and a cherry tomato on top.

What You'll Need

  • 1 (16-ounce) container refrigerated mashed potatoes

  • 1 (15-ounce) package refrigerated cooked roast beef with gravy or au jus

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 3 cherry tomatoes

What to Do

  1. Heat mashed potatoes and roast beef according to package directions. Pull beef apart into chunks.

  2. Evenly distribute mashed potatoes between 3 bowls, then evenly top with beef and gravy. Sprinkle each with cheese and place a tomato on top.

Notes

  • If the gravy that comes with your roast beef is too thin, all you've got to do is whisk in 1 teaspoon of flour to thicken it.

Serves 3 and cooks in 15 min

I hope this gave you new ideas on making mashed potatoes interesting again . Happy Mashed Potato Day and enjoy.
